COOPER’S STORY

On August 4th, 2017, little Cooper came into my life from Dogs Unlimited Rescue.  I had been thinking about getting a dog for some time and after looking at rescue dogs online, I narrowed it down to two--Cooper and another dog.  After seeing the other dog and almost moving forward with that dog, I can see why it was now not meant to be.  Cooper was the dog that was meant to be for me!  He fit perfectly into my life and lifestyle, and everyone fell in love with him.

As you know from my blog and Cooper's Instagram page, CleChihuhua, you know I love to celebrate holidays and special events with Cooper in a variety of ways.  So of course Cooper's birthday had to be extra special!  Since I got him, I knew he would have a special celebration a year later!

Since Cooper does not have a lot of dog friends, we did a small get together with close family (cook out for the humans) with dog cake and fun gifts for Cooper.

For Cooper's celebration, Amazon was a great choice for his gifts, as they had a great variety with good prices,  I also picked up a peanut butter dog cake mix with a dog bone shaped cake mold and fun birthday accessories, such as his bandana, party hat, and balloons.  Cooper loves wearing his bandana, thought the cake was so tasty, and has no issue posing for photos with his party hat!

I'm a firm believer that dogs and cats deserve the best life we can provide them.  Their lives are so short, and so many rescue animals have had rough starts to their life, so why not make everything an adventure?!  Plus, it's super fun for mom to party plan, have fun with her favorite humans, and see Cooper having fun.

Update March 2026

As I work to revive my blog, I was starting to go through older content that was still getting clicks! I remember putting this blog post up and all the fun Cooper and I had! He was the best dog! Unfortunately, he passed away in September 2024 from mesothelioma. It happened suddenly in August 2024, and I was able to get a little under two months with him before there were no other options to move forward. While I miss Cooper so much, he was my soul dog, we still have Zoey (in photos with Cooper) and I got another chihuahua named Minni! Believe it or not, I am a bad dog mom and didn’t celebrate their Gotcha Day this year, but I we have basically celebrated every other holiday!

IDEA ONE: BAKE A CAKE or cupcakes

Dog Bone Cake

If you want to try, bake your dog a cake or pup-cakes! It actually is sooo easy, but I am sure so many of you are better at frosting than I am! As you can see, the dog birthday cake baked great and came out of the cake mold perfectly.  The frosting was a little thick and difficult to spread (hence the messy frosting job), but Cooper seemed to love it!

Pupcakes Are Also An Option

I have found that these often are easier (and smaller) for dogs to eat! These had peanut butter frosting!

idea two: buy a cake!

Buy a Cake!

If you are limited on time or want something more aesthetic than the homemade option, you can always easily buy a cake. We got ours from a local dog bakery, but you can also order them fresh from dog bakeries on Amazon!

Idea 3: Gifts and Toys!

Cute Gift Bags & Toys

I am all about the details, and I picked up pawprint gift wrap along with some cute Gotcha Day Themed Toys!
