The Perfect Piece: Vintage Vanity DIY

As promised, I’m coming to you with more home and DIY stuff. Recent events definitely messed up my plans for more home stuff this spring, but I’m already getting my yard ready and have a few simple DIY projects coming your way soon. In the meantime, my latest Instagram poll indicated that you wanted to see the DIY of this dresser I shared with my nails a week or so ago, so I’m doing a brief write-up of this DIY project I did a few years back and always wanted to share with you!

When I was really re-doing my guest bedroom, one of the main items I wanted was a vintage dresser to upcycle with painting and some of my personal touch. I initially was looking at a vintage Art Deco dresser, but all the ones I found were too beautiful for what I wanted to do OR way too expensive. After much searching at estate sales and online auctions, I ended up settling for this vintage vanity I found at an online auction. It’s been over 3 years since I purchased it, so I don’t even remember how much it was! I’m thinking it was probably around $85.

Since my bedroom was light blue and white with pops of pink, I was torn how I wanted to do this piece. I decided for the best of both worlds—I would paint the body of it white and paint the drawers blue. I knew I also wanted to replace the hardware.

I ended up sanding it down (even though it was veneer, I wanted to rough it up), cleaned it, and taped all the appropriate areas off. I purchased Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Pure White in the Semi-Gloss, as I wanted this piece to be durable and easy to clean. I then purchased Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Journey’s End In Semi-Gloss. Prior to painting, I primed (as always) with Zinsser Primer (the best ever!).

I ended up replacing the hardware with crystal knobs. Such a super easy piece! And it came out soooooo good!

I liked how this came out so much, I ended up upcycling an old bookcase with the same theme and made it into a jewelry armoire. You can check out that post here. I ended up using pretty much all the same products on that project too!
